DENVER (July 5, 2008) – The City of Glendale, Colorado added another piece to its city center redevelopment with the opening of the Glendale Sports Center, adjacent to Infinity Park, home of the nation’s only municipally-owned, regulation size rugby pitch. Denver-based OLC, which specializes in the design of recreation, fitness and aquatics facilities, was chosen by the City of Glendale to remodel and expand an existing facility, design the space to include community space, a fitness center, a rugby club, catering and food/beverage facilities, and individual and team locker rooms. Only the gymnasium from the original facility remains, and a 30,000 square foot, two-story addition comprises the new structure. A one-of-a-kind events center with a 800-seat ballroom, will open December 2008 right next to the community sports center. The rugby pitch is home to the Glendale Raptors Rugby Team, but also hosts an array of community events including movie nights, youth sports leagues and concerts. “This has been an exciting project for OLC, because it allows our architects to showcase their greatest skills, venturing into areas never previously attempted,” said OLC Senior Principal and Project Designer Doni Visani. “We are working closely with Glendale officials to develop a core hub of activity that is dynamic, versatile and unique.”
