NAS Park Place Oita (NAS Oita) is a family athletic club in Oita, Japan, on the island of Kyushu. The building itself is located between a large shopping mall and a new housing development. The 47,000 square foot club is designed for fitness activities, community recreation and member relaxation. It houses multiple active and passive spaces for users of every age and ability, from toddlers to seniors.
Active Spaces include a 25-meter, 7-lane indoor pool, with separate 15-meter 2-lane walking pool next to a massage pool with whirlpool jets, 6500 SF fitness and cardio space on the second floor, climbing wall, 3300 SF gymnasium, group exercise studios and 4 indoor golf ranges with state-of-the-art simulator equipment where users can play over 100 golf courses around the world.
The design concept of NAS Oita is a traditional Western-style health club, with a touch of Japanese hot springs resort. The first impression of this facility is a warm, inviting and comfortable atmosphere starting at the reception desk. To the right there is an open view to the indoor pool and an open atrium to the left side. A two-story atrium lounge adjacent to the main circulation area feels much like an outdoor space with glass walls and high ceiling. Greenery, rough textured stones and a large mural-type graphic enhance the outdoor nuances.
